Games For Beginning Readers


Alphabet Dice Game: Just throw the dice and spell. When you're stumped, everyone just rolls again.


Alphabet Soup Game: Children have fun forming words. Ready, steady, spell. Move from one letter to another to make different words. On the back of each picture you'll find its spelling so it's easy to check and make sure you have the right letters in the right order.

Alphabet Go Fish Matching Card Game: 
"Do you have a C?" Ask for the match to your alphabet letters and make pairs to win. What letter will you get from the pile if you have to 'Go Fish?'

Magnetic Poetry Kids' First Words:
These tiles stand 1" tall, making them easy pickings for little fingers. The words were chosen with the help of educators, focusing on words that are often a part of early reading curricula.

Melissa & Doug Undersea Alphabet Soup Game: How many ways can you spell "fun"? This exciting pool game includes 26 sealife-themed letter pieces and 16 challenge cards to use in seven different games. Kids can answer the challenge cards to spell, identify and decode ocean-themed words, or just enjoy gathering and sorting the whimsically decorated letter pieces. There's a game for every skill level.

Memory: Alphabet memory game.

Phonics Center Kit-Alphabet:  Teach kids important skills they need to become good readers. Kids will learn how letters of the alphabet combine to make sounds and words.

Sight-Words Spill & Spell Game: 
This easy-to-play game turns sight-word practice into fast-paced fun! Players draw several sight-word cards, spill the dice...then try to spell the words on their cards. If they spell the words correctly, students record them on their scorecards, then draw new cards and start again!

The Wonder Forge Dr Seuss Super Stretchy ABCs: Get wild, twisty, turny, and super-stretchy in this imaginative, active game! Thing One and Thing Two are whirling up a tornado of fun! Stretch to the letters on the giant floor mat! How many toys can you get back in your box? There are hundreds of body-twisting, letter-matching challenges, and every game is super-stretchy fun!

Zingo!  Sight Words brings young children the fun of the classic game of bingo while they learn to recognize sight words. Players learn to quickly read these important, commonly used words that don't always "sound out" easily, such as that and our. The interactive Zinger! machine lets your child slide the dispenser to release two word tiles, recognize and read the words, then see if the words match the squares on their word card. The first player to fill all the squares on their card with tiles is the winner.
