Appreciation of the Arts

Picture
The Appreciation of The Arts is a vibrant part of our curriculum. Our students are given opportunities to discuss, examine, engage, understand and explore The Arts every day at GCDC. We expose our students to four different types of art: visual, theater, music and dance.

We believe that by exposing students to a variety of arts, they will be able to synthesize their definition of The Arts and are more likely to incorporate it into their daily lives. Teachers purposely plan for and introduce The Arts to our students in developmentally appropriate ways. This approach allows our students to use their higher order thinking skills. According to research, when students are asked to analyze, evaluate or create, they are engaged in the highest levels of thinking. To that end, students study some form of art each week.

In addition to replicating famous works of art. GCDC students enjoy live performances throughout the school year. Some of these are student performances.

All GCDC students participate in biweekly music lessons.

GCDC Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the Goddard Child Development Center to create a stimulating environment in which children can learn through exploration and discovery with teachers acting as facilitators.
